I have been here every year for the last 7 years when I go to the Miami Open. The food is always very good (good curry and sushi) and the service is good as well. The out door seating is great to people watch. Really enjoy it

Origin Asian Bistro & Sushi has mediocre quality sushi. I ordered the Rainbow Roll and the Heat Roll, and in both rolls the fish was not that fresh and the rolls were one-note in taste. I enjoyed the Heat Roll more than the Rainbow Roll because it had tuna, which is a naturally flavorful fish. The Rainbow Roll was really lacking in flavor, which is a shame for a roll that has several types of fish. Origin Asian Bistro & Sushi is affordable for anyone on a budget, but I'd recommend trying out the other items on their menu besides the sushi.

I have been eating at Origins since it opened years ago!!! The sushi is fresh and delicious!!! I am a creature of habit and always order their Heat roll, spicy tuna roll, Malaysian roti, steamed dumplings, and chicken pad thai. They are reasonably priced and friendly. Their outdoor setting is always a great way to enjoy the afternoon or evening outdoors. I highly recommend Origins!!!!

Dear Origin Asian Bistro, All I can say is that I am HORRIFIED at my most recent experience here. I don't know what's going on with your ownership and management, but being rude to your customers is NOT acceptable. Not honoring items on your menu and arguing a moot point is NOT acceptable. Screaming at and challenging your customers is NOT acceptable. Let me start at the beginning, since that's usually the best way to tell a story. I came for lunch with a coworker a couple of Fridays ago. We were looking forward to enjoying a beautiful Friday afternoon having lunch away from the office. The restaurant was pretty empty upon our arrival (only 2 other tables total inside AND out), so we expected it to be quick, which was unfortunately not the case. We sat inside and noticed that the owner/manager was at a table working on his laptop at a table in the corner from where we were. It was just an observation, but for some reason, I just had the feeling he was the owner. Anyhow, we placed our order, opting to share a sashimi lunch special, which the menu said it was 5 pieces of fish, chosen by the chef, and a soup or salad, and a California Roll. Since we both wanted salad, we were charged for 1, but that was understandable. A while had passed (i mean a good while, like 25 minutes), which for a sashimi lunch there's not much cooking to do, and our lunch had still not arrived. I asked our waitress who shrugged and went over to the kitchen. She walked back with our lunch, except it was not what we were expecting. It was 9 pieces of sashimi and no California Roll. We were just a little confused, considering the menu said something different, so we asked the waitress what had happened. She explained that their menu was wrong and that this was the sashimi lunch. We then kindly advised her that at no point did she inform us of this mistake in the menu or of the subsequent change in what we would be receiving. We asked to speak to the manager/person-in-charge, who then walked over from the table he was sitting in. In another language, the waitress said something to him (I imagine explaining what happened); he then proceeded to yell at us and tell us that the menu was wrong and that this was our lunch and that was it. We tried to tell him that as his customers he should try and honor his menu, since that was what we were expecting (what's a California roll to him anyhow??), to which he replied that he didn't have to do anything. I was so shocked at the sheer unprofessional-ism displayed by this man that I just didn't know what to say. I shut my mouth at that point, and he left our table with a nasty attitude. My friend and I tried to make the best of it and not have our lunch ruined, so we ate our sashimi. Don't get me wrong, the fish was fresh and delicious, however, 9 pieces of fish aren't going to fill 2 people. We were still hungry, so we ordered a shrimp tempura roll, that was just OK. I won't be back. That's not a threat. I just will never waste another hard-earned dime at such an undeserving establishment. Get it together Origins. Truthfully, SabrinaAnna*

Great lunch spot, with numerous lunch specials that allow you to sample a bit of everything. How is this possible, you ask. Well, as an example, I like to get the Chicken Curry Lunch Special, which comes with your choice of soup or salad, chicken curry (go figure!), fried rice, california roll, 2 fried dumplings, 2 fried chicken wings, and 2 steamed dumplings, all for ~$10. For the price, you can't beat the selection! Only downside to Origin I've experienced is the fact they open at 11:30am, but also don't start to sweep/mop the dinning room until 11:30am. So, if you arrive before noon, expect to have your feet attacked by the (careless/unaware?) busboy. :/

Took a large group of 25 people to this place. They managed to fit us all comfortably inside the restaurant and the service was prompt and the food was awesome! Prices were really great and for the quality. I had the donuts for dessert and I was blown away by them! If you are in the area I highly recommend coming to Origin!!

Consistent quality and a very varied menu. It's hard to go wrong here. It can get a little pricey but that have a very good early bird 3 course dinner menu for $14.95....or you can use the Primecard and save 15%. All in all this is a good place to go for a sure-thing quality meal.

As awkward as the server usually is... Its a nice awkward that makes you want to come back. Food is above average. The atmosphere is nice. Its one of my favorite spots on key biscayne.

The sushi pretty good. The service was good and personable. I tried the dragon roll, the heat roll, California roll and the key Biscayne roll. I also ordered a chicken stir fry garlic pepper sauce. Overall a good experience. I would recommend it.

We walked in on New Years Eve without a reservation. The rain closed down their outside seating which is half their space. Staff was pleasant. Food was very good. Sushi was exceptional and reasonably priced.

Tonight was the final of the U.S. Open when everyone was interested in watching the final match. We arrived at Origins to a completely empty dining room. There was a bigTV and the only other table had two men watching but not dining. They were obviously dressed as men who worked at the restaurant. We asked if we could watch the final and the waitress said yes, then she asked the men at the table ( again not dining) if she could change the channel from American football previews to the U.S. Open Final. They obviously rule the dining area of origins and said no. We paid our bill for our drinks and left. We went to Motto, a much higher end Japanese, and watched the U.S. Open ( it was already on) along with other guests and enjoyed amazing sushi and company. That will be my LAST time ever going to Origins. Hopefully they will soon close... With the interest they have in the public service it shouldn't be long. Sad... They used to be so good. You can definitely see they changed management and no longer care about the service of those who live in KB but more importantly, those who work there. Disgusting... As was their very bad attitude!!!

This is absolutely my favorite Asian restaurant. The Good: I have had just about every Tapas (appetizer) here and they are most def. the star of the show. I've been to this restaurant over 20 times since I've moved to Miami. I consistently love their lamb ribs (even though I'm more of a pescatarian and not a fan of BBQ) they are a great combination of sticky, sweet, tender goodness. The Malaysian Roti is great (My dad is Trini, so I KNOW good roti) This is not what you would traditionally get at a Caribbean, or Indian restaurant, but it falls into the flaky goodness category. The Ceviche (Tuna) is a spicy, sweet, salty , soft, crisp combo of deliciousness. I've had ceviche at other Asian restaurants, but Origin's is the best. Sushi is good Entrees are good (except anything with chicken - see below) The Bad: I will not order any dish with chicken. I've had the curries and they are amazing but I just stick to the shrimp from now on because the chicken is horrible. It's just a tasteless, kinda rubbery, generic, pre-sliced, pre-cooked, garbage similar to what you get at a fast food Chinese place. (Everything else on the menu's absolutely delicious, that's why I gave them 5 stars) The Service: Great, warm, friendly!

Excellent lunch menu on Key Biscayne!! Any item includes pork fried dumplings AND a soup or salad, for apporx $12! The curry rice dishes are great as is the pad thai. Great little lunch stop if you bike to key biscayne.

Best sushi/Japanese restaurant on the Key. Very nice owner who always helps with specials and is very friendly. It is always delicious and they just redid the interior and it looks even better than before. I suggest the mini sushi mori, miso soup, and white rice. -JG

Not good nor bad. It was my first time visiting and I wasn't really amazed by their dishes. The food was OK but not great. I had salmon with vegetables but it had a lot of soy sauce; oversweetened and overseasoned. Good service with a friendly staff and great atmosphere but that's it!

We came with a group of 10. The waiter (I wish I knew his name) took our order without a notepad, which is always impressive... and he actually got everyone's order right! And he remembered who ordered what (instead of the typical, "Okay, who ordered the fish?") Great night, great food, great atmosphere. Thanks!

My first experience with Sush was a disaster. My buddy took me to a spot up here in Dayton, Ohio and I did NOT set well with me. That was back in 2004. I said I'd never eat this crap again. Everyone kept saying "give it another chance".. "your buddy took you to a crappy spot".. "are you sure you were eating it the way it's supposed to be eaten".. and blah blah blah.. My girl is a MERP student at Ross, and on a tight budget but she sprung me to experience Origin, knowing how apprehensive I was about it. Thank you baby! She was very patient and helpful explaining what was what (I don't eat swine or shellfish) and how to eat it. The stuff I do actually eat - yeah buddy, I SMASHED IT. Tuna Sashimi, Salmon Carpaccio, Ginger Chicken, Tuna Roll, and the Tai-Snapper. Go to Origins when you're in South Miami. You'll love it!

Origins is a solid food option for Key Biscayne. Yes, it's pan-Asian, which some might criticize. But it does nearly everything well, and it offers a pleasant outdoor seating area. I've eaten here at least 5 times in groups of 4 or more, and I have always been happy.

The food is good and very reasonably priced. Great location and service is excellent! Staff is super friendly and always make me feel so welcomed. Their early dinner specials (before 7:30) are the best deals!

Well.... I didn't have high expectations for any good Asian food where there is almost ... well, no Asian living in the island. And I always find a problem when sushi is served with any other food (Siamese typical in Miami, even with latin food....). So given that it's just average, decent service and semi-decent food. I recommend you to stick to Thai/Siamese and/or other cooked Asian food.. at least you will get Asian food without going over the bridge.

This restaurant is excellent. One of the best places I have been to in Miami. I had a wonderful experience, great service and delicious food. Loved the atmosphere especially outside. Inside had nice decor. A very cozy place located in Key Biscayne. The menu has top notch dishes, plus there Sushi. There servers were friendly and checked up on my table frequently. I highly recommended this establishment, I promise you. Will not be disappointed.

I wish I had paid attention to fellow Yelpers who have given this place the lowest rating of any eatery in this quaint little village. The place was nearly empty yet the scallops arrived cold and the roasted pork tacos luke warm. The taco "shells" were neither shells nor tortillas but some tasteless white sticky goo that sticks to both your hands and your teeth! AVOID!

I liked it here. Went here early on a Saturday. They have dinner specials for $13.95, starting at 4:30pm. Miso soup and dessert included, along with green tea or coffee. Their green tea is fantastic, btw. Not all green tea is created equal. For entrees, I had the Duck penang, which was pretty good. But my boyfriend had the Thai seafood pasta in a light curry cream sauce. It was AMAZING! It had a nice curry taste but also a little sweet. I would definitely go here again and get that pasta dish. yum! Decor is also nice. Service wasn't great, but I didn't think it was as bad as the other reviews claim.

Origin Asian Bistro has been submitted to the Yelp Obituaries. Origin Asian Bistro, located on Key Biscayne, has been found dead this past weekend. The cause of death was from too many infusions of worldly cuisines. It was reported that the sheer weight of all these cuisines crushed them as if they belonged in a 2-D Nintendo game. Also, during the autopsy, the coroner reported there was traces of inadequate service laced all over the corpse. The age of Origins was estimated at three years old. This Origin Bistro was the not as smart, not as good-looking, not as big, younger brother of the original Origin, located in South Miami. It was rumored the parents were too old and this is why their latest offspring has so many complications. Although the outside courtyard was a gorgeous spot to dine, the overall dining area is curtailed by the soulless insides of Origin. If it were to rain, people would be stuck with a small, boring, and unimaginative inside. This is exactly where my party was stuck, the boring inside. Compounded to the lack of ambiance was the inadequate service. A fellow Yelper colleague had called it when he said that the waitress was going to mess up the order. Sure enough, the order was screwed up not once, but twice. Lastly, our impersonal waiter gave us the bill with 18% gratuity already on it. What restaurant puts 18% gratuity on a party of three. Lastly, their main problem was their so called Asian Fusion identity. Couldn't Origin pick like three or four cuisines to form their fusion? Instead they chose every Asian country and their mamas plus for kicks had some tacos and non-Asian pasta dishes. Last I checked Mexicacn and Italian was not Asian fusion. They should have advertised Origin as your one stop place for every worldly cuisine. At the funeral, it was reported that the primarily Asian crowd remained apathetic and shrugged their shoulders as dirt was laid upon Origin. The same people were overheard saying the funeral took too long and had cut into their Mah-Jong time. Origin Asian Bistro is survived by its older brother Origin in South Miami.

i think i might have given this place another star if it wasnt for the service, everyone but the servers were nice. we walk in the greeter was supper sweet and very inviting, the sushi cheff behind the bar was great and cheerfull too then all of the sudden dun dun dun the evil sounds from behind the server counter started, and a small sized woman without a smile and super red lipstick eyed us, and decided to keep us at a very far distance for at least 15 min (im assuming she was gathering all her evil equipment like voodoo dolls, nunchucks, ninja stars ect) and finally decided to apporch us at lightning speeds that got me nervouse and caused me to shiver when ordering in case she reached into her side bag full of special powders that might shrink my head. after getting the odering done with the supper nice lady came by to freshen up our water and her smile made the world good again....then the shushi cheff chatted us up while preping our order and just when the rainbows and butterflies began to appear again...the evil sounds came on the loud speakers and red lipstick girl came over with our order (theres a pic) of our delish. food! the food was def amazing concidering i thought it was going to be poisoned, cant ever go wrong with a volcano roll. and concidering the only other place iv had sushi at on the key was extremly over priced this places prices was extremely decent. the dessert (fried iscream) was also supper yummy and very artistically presented (as were the other dishes). so really if the service was less scary and intimidating that whole experiance would have been worth another star.

Three tries and you're out. Ordered Malaysian roti, spicy tuna rolls, Korean bbq beef with rice, and crispy shrimp dumplings. They each sucked! My son went hungry because he refused to eat dry and poor quality food. I've tried this place 3 times, and except for the Tom Yum soup, its all bad!

So, considering the review I wrote about seeing if she's safe less than a mile up the street... This one is a gem to review. I decided to stop in here on my way home from the beach and order pretty much the same thing I ordered at the sushi place up the street. Gets it... I ordered their salmon sashimi appetizer and salad and order of tofu noodles something or other for my good friends with him on Thursday... And the total bill for all of that is $15 less than my bill was up the street for salmon and seaweed salad alone. & I had more sashimi here for the price that I did up the street and the pieces were bigger and the salmon is better. Furthermore, they let you add your own tips here. They don't add your tip on and not give you a choice for service of one person they do at the gratuity on for parties of 6 or more which is typical restaurant procedure. The food was great the atmosphere was great to have a wonderful outdoor patio and the service was very good. Obviously I will never go to the sushi spot up the street and I will always come here and I highly recommend it!!!!

This place used to be good. USED TO ! The service is getting worse and worse every time. The food is not consistent. Pray before u go to get good food. Sometimes I get a perfect cooked salmon. Sometime it is over cook /dry. Tom yum soup sometimes is good, sometimes is too salty and smell weird. So pick your lucky day to go here. One of the wait staff is rude and unprofessional. Avoid the big tall guy !! Bad service !! The only 2 stars I gave them is for their sushi !! Always good and fresh. Sushi chef always nice and friendly. I used to see a guy ( assuming he was the manager ). Now he is gone. Maybe the good service is gone too ?

We did not expect much coming inside Origin Asian Bistro & Sushi Restaurant (Key Biscayne, Miami) this morning after a big disappointment 2 days ago at a Thai restaurant in Miami Beach. But to our surprise, Origin Restaurant served us the best Thai food so far in Miami area. Its staffs, waiters, and waitresses are very polite and friendly. Additionally, the price is very affordable. Our meal costs half as much as the meal at the Miami Beach restaurant.

  • Carmen W.

Origin, you are slacking. Quality of sushi has gone down. The errors with the orders are up high. Anything tempura is a bad idea because you can taste that they need to change the oil as you consume it. The only thing that this place has going for it is that it's a step up from the other asian options on Key Biscayne, and that isn't saying much at this point.

Good food, well prepared. Plenty of vegan options. Only complaint was that the service was erratic. Different waiters all the time and it took 30 minutes to get the check and then get it paid for. They appear to be understaffed. Good for kids in the outdoor area.

Well the only complaint before was the wait and now that's been corrected, this place rocks. The food is very tasty and good portions , being a meat lover I tried the lamb ribs. I have to say the best I have ever had and I eat different cuts of beef and choice meats , better everyday and these ribs could be award winning hummmmm the puffs are good too. Great shrimp salad. Good portions all in all good environment and great staff.

Let me tell you, my friend in Miami is Yelp-illiterate so when she told me we were just going to go to Key Biscayne and see what we found, I was a little up in the air on that one. I'm all for spontaneity, but not when it comes to spending more than $20, you know? Origin Asian Bistro was just what the doctor ordered. Mai Tais kept flowing (sweet, but just fine for my mood). We had two appetizers, the Prince Edward Island Oysters in a delicious curry-like broth and the lobster-shrimp shumai. The oysters were really very good (and such a gorgeous orange) and a decent portion for the price. This was my 4-year old son's first time eating oysters and he like them quite a bit. The shumai weren't bad, but not all that either. What I like about traditional shumai is that the whole shrimp contrasts in both flavor and texture with the ground pork. These shumai were all lobster/shrimp paste (steamed solid, of course) and could have benefited from some added depth. For an entree, my friend had the shurashi (sashimi on a bed of rice) and really enjoyed it (along with the Miso soup that came with it). My son had the coconut shrimp appetizer as an entree and devoured them all. I tried them and to my palate, they were a little bland, tasting more of breading and less of coconut (perhaps sugar or salt to bring out the coconut flavor?). Still, satisfying my son at such a restaurant is no small feat. They should include that dish on the kids menu! I had the Malaysian shrimp scampi and it KICKED BUTT! So flavorful and delicious. We had lychee fruit for dessert which was super yummy too. We sat on the patio in the beautiful Miami evening and the atmosphere was really peaceful, the wait staff attentive and the decor really lovely. Aside from a few missteps with a couple of dishes, the meal was extremely satisfying and innovative and it's presentation was really beautiful too.

I don't understand the complaints here on Yelp, every time I come here it is great. The food is always perfect and the owner/manager is very friendly and efficient. I bring my daughters and they have a reasonable children's menu and they love coming to Origins. The setting is nice and I'll be back many more times for sure.

Being on the island as a tourist, My brother and I stumble across Asian Bistro!!! I have to say the location was great, the outdoor seating was good but the decor inside..had an indian theme going..different for an Asian restaurant but it was classy so I am not going to knock it! We ended up ordering an app and sushi!! The Dumpling or Gyzo as they called it...was pretty good!! I was off to a good start!! Then came the sushi!!! Being a sushi critic ...I have to say the sushi was just A OK! The number of pieces in the roll was like 10 or so....so don't do the mistak of ordering a lot of rolls...you will be stuffed and end up having to take a doggie bag back ..just like we did!! some of fish in the rolls did not seem soo fresh... The waitress was slow too, they took forever to even take our bill! Overall is was just A-OK (just like Yelp says it) :)

Origin has a very attractive and pleasant atmosphere. The staff is very nice and helpful. My family came here for lunch before hitting the beach. Our lunch consisted of 2 appetizers: steamed dumplings (Sysco special) shrimp tempura- the batter was thick and not light crispy 1 kids meal- chicken katsu and a scoop of rice 1 chicken noodle soup- ultra bland and needed a lot of doctoring 2 lunch combos- ginger steak- excellent flavor and perfectly pink in the middle black cod- tender, moist and delicious! Both combos came with california rolls, more Sysco dumpling but fried, Sysco siu mai, nappa cabbage stir fry and fried rice. 2 lemonades, a beer and a wine. This was a very mediocre meal and should have been more like $50. Lunch set us back $90 and tip. Should have gotten a happy ending for that price.

I know nothing about Asian food. That being said, the food here was pretty tasty. I usually judge a meal by cost-to-fullness ratio. After seeing the lunch menu prices, I was worried the c-t-f ratio would be out of balance not in my favor, but I was pleasantly surprised after my meal. Good casual restaurant with easy parking.

Excellent lunch menu on Key Biscayne!! Any item includes pork fried dumplings AND a soup or salad, for apporx $12! The curry rice dishes are great as is the pad thai. Great little lunch stop if you bike to key biscayne.

Took a large group of 25 people to this place. They managed to fit us all comfortably inside the restaurant and the service was prompt and the food was awesome! Prices were really great and for the quality. I had the donuts for dessert and I was blown away by them! If you are in the area I highly recommend coming to Origin!!

We walked in on New Years Eve without a reservation. The rain closed down their outside seating which is half their space. Staff was pleasant. Food was very good. Sushi was exceptional and reasonably priced.

Love origins! Really friendly staff and nice set of a few tasty items from few representative Asian cuisines. Great curries and also sushi!

Horrible take out the other night. Thai salad was just awful. Dried up chicken and ICEBERG LETTUCE?? Please. Sushi just fair filled with preservatives. never again.

AVOID!

By far the best sushi place in the world. You can never go wrong with origins. The must try is the chicken lo mein and the shrimp shumai. I have never been dissatisfied with Origins!
